Martinů at Dvořákova Praha festival!
Apart from its stellar performers and ample programme mainly dedicated to the most famous Czech composer, visitors of the 14th edition of Dvořákova Praha festival will have the chance to hear two shorter pieces by Bohuslav Martinů, too.
First one, "Duo for violin and violoncello No. 1, H 157" will be performed on Friday September 12th at the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia by UK violinist Chloë Hanslip and Czech cellist Jiří Bárta. Chamber pieces by Zemlinsky, Schulhoff and Suk are also featured on the programme. The cycle of songs on Moravian folk poetry for voice and piano, "Songs on One Page, H 294" will be performed during a recital of Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmeir and US pianist Russel Ryan on Monday September 15th, also in the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia, featuring works by Schubert, Strauss, Janáček and Mahler.
14th edition of the festival, dedicated almost entirely to Antonín Dvořák, will take place in Prague between 8 - 22 September; Czech Philharmonic Orchestra being at its residence this year. Apart from the Czech Phil, other well-known names will perform Prague, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra lead by Zubin Mehta or the recent winner of the Gramophone award, Pavel Haas Quartet.
