The opening of the travelling exhibition Martinů walks through Prague: celebration of 30 years of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute
The Bohuslav Martinů Institute celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in 2025 and has prepared an extensive programme to mark the occasion, including a travelling exhibition "Martinů walks through Prague". The exhibition focuses on the Prague years of Bohuslav Martinů.

Martinů's stay in the capital is framed by the year 1906, when he came to the capital Martinů was sixteen years old when he studied violin at the Prague Conservatory, and 1923, when he went to Paris for "experience". His last visit to Prague (and to the Czechoslovakia in general) was in 1938 for the premiere of his opera Juliette. After the war he never visited communist Czechoslovakia again. He spent the rest of his life abroad - in France, Italy, the USA and Switzerland, where he died in 1959.
His Prague student years were characterized by frequent changes of subletting and
constantly on foot, because the poor student had no money for trams or cabs. He often and more or less humorously mentioned his wanderings around Prague in his letters to his family.
With reference to the fact that Martinů had explored Prague in detail, the project was named "Martinů walks through Prague" and the exhibition is also designed as a travelling exhibition. More information about the exhibition and its other locations at: https://www.martinu.cz/martinu-kraci-prahou
