The pianist, teacher, and translator Yukiko Sawa hails from Tokyo. She graduated from the piano at Musashino Academy in Tokyo and then completed a postgraduate course at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Prof. Josef Páleníček. This fact has made Yukiko Sawa one of the leading proponents of Czech music in Japan.
Besides her frequent concert performances, she is an active member of the Leoš Janáček Society in Japan, and after the death of Dr Hideo Sekine, she has taken a leading cultural role in the Czech-Japanese Society while also becoming president of the International Martinů Circle in Japan.
Yukiko Sawa is a popular piano teacher and methodologist – she is tenured at Seitoku University, where she trains present and future teachers from the all over Japan.
