The comprehensive critical edition of Bohuslav Martinů's works continues!

On 4 November, the prestigious premises of the Municipal House hosted a festive presentation of two new volumes of the Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Bohuslav Martinů. The evening was dedicated to two one-act operas: Mariken de Nimègue and Alexandre bis. 

The volumes, containing two interwar one-act operas - Mariken de Nimègue, H236 2/I and Alexandre bis, H255 were published in 2023 and 2024 by the Bohuslav Martinů Institute on behalf of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation in Bärenreiter Prague.

Mariken de Nimègue from 1933 is a previously unpublished and unperformed version of the opera. Alexandre bis, Martinů's last stage work before the war, was written for the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris.
