Bohuslav Martinů and Brno. To the world and Czechoslovak premieres of the composer's stage works

Although the composer Bohuslav Martinů never lived or worked in Brno, it was one of the places where his work was regularly performed - often for the first time.

This publication deals primarily with the phenomenon of Martinů's stage works that were given their world or Czechoslovak premieres in Brno - both during the composer's lifetime and after his death. In this sense, Brno has clearly become the place with the most frequent performances of new Martinů productions worldwide.

The aim of this thesis is to acquaint the reader with the circumstances of the works' creation and the circumstances of their Brno productions, as well as the reactions of the professional public in contemporary reviews.

Two great Brno promoters of Martinů's work, Václav Nosek and Zdeněk Zouhar, are introduced in detail and separate chapters are devoted to them. Other activities connected with the Brno environment are mentioned only marginally to complete the context and provide an overall overview.
