Martinů fest 2023 | The silence of Bohuslav Martinů

The production of The Silence of Bohuslav Martinů is an attempt at a biographical work without the first-plan schemes that the contemporary cultural industry is full of on the pages of biographical reading and cinema screens. We don't want to wrap up the life of one of our greatest composers in a clear and necessarily flattening story that has its fabled beginning and end. The production is an image of the silencing of musical and cultural greatness. The process of creating a biographical work itself becomes the topic. The core of the production, which represents the essence of Bohuslav Martinů, is his music, not the narration about him.

The multi-genre project of the Kolárka Theater is realized in cooperation with musicians and other guests. The text part of the production is based on biographical and memorial books about Bohuslav Martinů combined with motifs from the work of the Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek and her concept of "theatre in the theatre." The musical part consists of fragments from the compositions of Bohuslav Martinů.
