The violist Karel Špelina died on 13 December 2022, aged 86. The long-standing member of the Bohuslav Martinů Piano Quartet also promoted the Polička composer’s music as a soloist and with other chamber ensembles. Among others, he recorded String Quartet No. 1, H 117, for Supraphon. He taught Martinů’s works at the famous classes of Sándor Végh’s Academy of Chamber Music.
